Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a free quote?

Cardinal Tree Care offers free quotes for potential clients interested in providing the best care for their trees. Whether it’s a light pruning or full removal, contact us by e-mail or phone to schedule an appointment for a free quote.

Quotes usually take about 20 minutes and are scheduled throughout the week. If you’d like to meet with us to talk about your trees we can schedule an appointment at a time that works best for you.

During a quote, we listen to our clients’ concerns about their trees. Many clients contact us because a tree has grown too close to a building, has been damaged by severe weather, or is crowding their backyard. Other times our clients’ trees just need some regular maintenance. Our ISA Certified Arborists will recommend an approach for tree care and discuss what you’d like done.

Your quote will have a detailed description of the work that has been recommended. Each tree or shrub will be itemized; tree climbing and cutting costs will appear separate from cleanup and disposal costs. This separation is useful for those clients who wish to keep some or all of the tree material, such as firewood and mulch.

Do I need to be home for the quote?

If we have the information we need about your tree, such as location, your problems or concerns, etc. it’s usually not necessary.

For example, if you haven’t got time to meet and need to remove a hazardous tree on your property, we will have a pretty clear idea of what needs to be done. We can come to see your tree ASAP, followup with a quote by phone or email, and schedule the work right away.

Alternatively, if you have a few trees in your backyard and aren’t exactly sure what you want to do with them, it might be best to schedule an appointment with an arborist to discuss the work.

If you’d like a quote but are unable to meet with us, call or email us your information and we will drop by to see your trees as soon as possible. We can catch up afterwards once we’ve sent you a quote to discuss the details.

Do I need a permit?

Trees that are located on private property, are wider than 30 cm in diameter, and mostly or somewhat alive require a permit to remove or significantly prune. Dead, hazardous, and terminally diseased trees are exempt from requiring a permit, such as Ash trees infected with the Emerald Ash Borer. Permits are also required for protecting trees during construction and for pruning city owned trees, such as trees located in front yards close to the street.

When deciding whether a tree permit is necessary or not, consulting an ISA Certified Arborist can save time, money, and headache. Cardinal Tree Care has arborists available for you by phone, email, or in person to help navigate the Toronto Tree Bylaw. Every tree is a little different, so it often comes down to an onsite assessment to determine whether a permit is required.

When is the work scheduled?

Once a quote is accepted by the client, we can go ahead and schedule the work for our next available date. Every client is important to us, so we will schedule the work on a date that is convenient for you. Usually, we schedule tree work within one to two weeks after the quote has been accepted.
